Abstract
This article describes the figure of Lionello Scarpioni, on the centenary of his birth, as emerges from the memories of his son Roberto, who is also a nephrologist. Graduated in Medicine in 1952 at Parma University, Lionello focused, since the beginning, on kidney diseases. In this context, in addition to intense clinical activity, he developed, with Rosario Maiorca, a strong interest in proteinuria, which led to the publication of an important and innovative monograph. In 1968, Lionello, having moved to Piacenza, continued to carry out intense clinical and research activities, especially on continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis and on diuresis and diuretic drugs. In conclusion, a very good example of a professional life dedicated to improving the care of kidney patients and to the development of clinical research.
